We learned a lot this week! In math, we have continued to focus on shapes, addition, and the concepts of more and less. This week, I have challenged them to begin to orally tell and to solve word problems. It's quite amusing to hear the stories they come up with, and it's fun to see how deeply they are engaged in stories.
Our new science unit, for the rest of the year, focuses on animals. For the first two weeks of this unit, we are learning about living and non-living things. We explored the differences between wants and needs, people, animals, and plants, and the characteristics of all living things (need air, need water, need food, they grow, and they have babies). Many students were amazed to discover that plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables are actually living things!

Empty (Family Size) Cereal Boxes Needed!
We are collecting empty, FAMILY SIZE, cereal boxes for the upcoming Cartonera Project.
Please send the flattened boxes with your child to school if you have them!
What is a cartonera? Translated quite literally, a cartonera is a cardboard book. Cartoneras got their start in Argentina in 2003 as a way of making reading and writing accessible to all. We will use the cereal boxes as covers for the kids' self-authored books!
