On Monday, we made our second trip to the Westwood Nature Center, where the kids learned all about winter birds (los pájaros del invierno) by playing a guessing game, watching a puppet show, seeing a real red-tailed hawk, and going on bird watching walk outside. They had a great time! In our classroom, we learned the different body parts of birds, explored the Kindergarten bird website during computer time, and created some adorable birds during art.
On Wednesday, Sr. González taught the kids an art lesson this week about Pablo Picasso. In addition to their art lesson, my class was able to attend the PSI Career Fair where they learned about various professions including doctors, police officers, violin instructors, and more. This week, they will continue to learn about different careers during their Sparks lesson with the school counselor.
In math this week, we focused heavily on addition and representing numbers in various ways. We began our routine of "Yo tengo" this week, and the kids had a blast showing their classmates some of their favorite things from home. I am looking forward to continuing to hear their Spanish vocabulary continue to expand through this fun new routine!
In science, we studied the properties of paper closely. We went on a paper hunt around the school to identify various objects made of paper, and the kids also searched the classroom for paper samples, discussing the similarities and differences between various types of paper. Later in the week, the kids explored which types of paper were best for writing, which were the worst, and which were the most fun to write on. It is exciting to hear them make predictions and to explain their thinking. We ended the week with making our own paper!
