Our week was full of science as well, which was thrilling for everyone. Some of the high school teachers visited our room each day last week to talk about plants' and animals' needs, living and non-living things, and farms. We even learned a new song about farm animals! On Monday, the kids will work together to design their own farm! We also talked about weather, and read the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck, discussing what it would be like if we could create our own weather. Then, we made Oobleck (a substance that is neither a liquid nor a solid) and had lots of fun with the messy, goopy concoction.
During writing, the kids made their own animal books, writing four clues about an animal that was hidden on another page. The room was a buzz with laughter, Spanish, and cheers as they shared their creativity with their peers. They also wrote about animals' needs, animals' treasures (what is good for them), and nocturnal animals.
In math, we have continued to practice more complex forms of addition and subtraction. We also talked about equal groups - how do you change one group to make it equal to another (addition or subtraction)? Another focus of this week was the concept of tens and ones.
On Thursday, we went on a field trip to Westwood Hills Nature Center to learn all about animal schedules and animal treasures. The field trip was complete with time to play, a puppet show, and a walk to search for animal treasures around the nature center. We ended the week by learning how to draw and paint cows (they turned out so cute!), which was a blast!

Next year, 8 new Spanish-speaking Amity Interns will join the PSI community to enrich our students' school experience. However, for this to be possible, the Amity Interns need a place to live during the school year. Please consider hosting an Amity Intern for either fall semester (end of August to mid-January) or spring semester (mid-January to mid-June).
