This week, we continued working with the vowels and working on our vowel vocabulary and counting and recognizing the numbers 1-10. Sra. Gregor came to visit our room to talk about personal space on Monday. We learned about Space Invader and Superflex - two characters who help us to make expected choices. The kids did a good job following those rules this week. We also made an adorable art project by creating elephants from the kids' handprints as well! On Friday, we went outside to find things of each of the colors we know.
Sra. Scheid, the literacy coach, came in and talked about being a good reader on Monday and on Thursday. She explained how they can already read books, even if they don't know how to read the words. They can read the pictures! The kids were so proud to be able to call themselves readers. Sra. Scheid also talked about growth mindset - not using the phrase "I can't", rather saying "I can't do that yet, but I will be able to." This is something that we will work on all year long. I was thrilled to watch all of my students diligently striving to be good readers during reading time!
Wednesday, September 27th
I sent an order form home in your child's folder this past week to purchase a picture package with a check or online. If you would like to order pictures, please return the form to school by Wednesday. Every child will have their picture taken on Wednesday, so everyone will appear in our class photo.
Hurricane and Earthquake Relief Collection:
Over the last few weeks, natural disasters have devastated parts of the southern United States and widespread areas in Mexico. In an effort to teach our students the importance of empathy and their role as global citizens, PSI will be collecting donations to support relief efforts in those areas. We will do this in two ways.
We are hosting a coin drive from Monday, September 25 - Friday, October 6. Any spare change the kids bring will be collected and will be directly given to relief efforts in response to Hurricane Harvey.
We are also hosting a dollar drive for one day only to support relief efforts in Mexico. This Thursday, September 28, we ask that each student brings $1 to school. If we raise at least $300, the whole school will earn the privilege of wearing a hat to school on Friday, September 29.
Thank you for your help in teaching our kids to be compassionate global citizens!
Sra. Foreman, our Spanish reading teacher, is taking our class to the St. Louis Park Public Library on Friday, October 6th! We want to foster a love of reading, and are excited to make a special walking trip to celebrate that. I sent a permission form home in your child's folder. Please fill it out and return it to school as soon as possible.
Welcome Night Survey Please take the time to fill out this short survey about Welcome Night.
