During this time of isolation it is still so important to connect with one another. Here are some ideas for virtual playdates to help kids maintain and develop social skills and friendships during this time. Kids could call friends, neighbors or relatives! Families, please ensure proper use of technology and supervise virtual playdates to help coach your children in appropriate social interactions. You can use Facetime, Google Meet, Zoom, Skype or whatever you’re most comfortable with.
Ideas for interacting:
- Check in: How are you? What have you been up to? What’s new?
- Play ‘Would You Rather’ (Would you rather go skydiving or scuba diving?)
- Play 20 questions (Think of an animal and the other child can ask up to 20 questions to guess it)
- Find out each other’s favorite things (color, food, sport, school subject, movie)
- Read a book to one another
- Draw together
- Have a dance party!
- Perform a puppet or stuffed animal show (they can create the puppets too!)
- Rhyme together (Dad, sad, bad, mad had…)
- Guess that song! (hum or sing part of a song and the other person guesses what song)
- Rock, Paper, Scissors
- Going on a picnic (I’m going on a picnic and I’m going to bring an APPLE. Continue naming them adding one alphabet letter at a time - …BLANKET...COOKIE...Doll)
