As we finished our fourth week of school, the kids have started to settle in to our routines and to the way school works. They know what it looks like to walk quietly in the hall, how to use Whole Body Listening, and they predict what our schedule will be each day. We are continuing to work on these rules and routines in order for the rest of the year to run smoothly. Not to mention, they have learned a lot of Spanish words! Hopefully you are starting to see a little bit of that at home!
This week, we practiced counting and recognizing numbers 1-10, counting to 20, we practiced making groups and graphs, and we distinguished between things that are different or the same. We focused on the vowels, differentiating between uppercase and lowercase letters, recognizing letters in the alphabet that are out of order, writing the ABCs, and Tucker signing.
Several special things happened this week as well. In art, we created self portraits, and we learned how to draw a teddy bear. Their artwork turned out fantastically! We also went to a lesson with our school counselor, Anne Moore about being a bucket filler/bucket dipper (making kind and unkind choices). If you want to learn more about it, just look up the book Have you Filled a Bucket Today? On Thursday, and we attended a bus safety lesson, where the kids practiced jumping out of the back of the bus in case of an emergency. We ended the week with talleres, during which the kids could choose to go outside, to make owl art out of torn paper, to play instruments, or to use thumbtacks to make fun designs!

I sent an order form home in your child's folder this past week to purchase a picture package online. I will be sending a paper copy home on Monday. If you would like to order pictures, please return the form to school by Wednesday. Every child will have their picture taken on Wednesday, so everyone will appear in our class photo.
I sent a letter home in your child's folder last Friday about our "Who is Special" project. My goal is for all of my students to be able to enjoy sharing a bit about themselves with each other. They love talking about themselves and sharing pictures of their lives, and this is a great way to continue to build our classroom community. As you finish their projects, please send them with your child to school, and I will have an English-speaking teacher share the projects with the class. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
