During language arts, the kids practiced their comparing and contrasting skills using between different versions of The Gingerbread Man story. In science, we studied the properties of paper closely. We analyzed various paper samples, discussing the similarities and differences between all of the types of paper. Later in the week, the kids explored which types of paper were best for writing, which were the worst, and which were the most fun to write on. It is exciting to hear them make predictions and to explain their thinking. The following day, we tried to see how many times we could fold different types of paper, and we talked about why some paper is so easy to fold and why others (like cardboard) are so difficult.
We also have been learning about winter birds, and met a pair of eagles that have a nest here in Minnesota. The DNR set up a camera to watch their nest, and that kids are fascinated by it. The link can be found by going to the Kindergarten websites, clicking on Los animales, then chose the Los pájaros tab, and click on the Kare 11 link. We will learn more about winter birds this coming week, and it will be the focus of our field trip.
