This week, we delved deeply into our study of animals. We continued to discuss the differences between living and non-living things, but we went beyond classifying the two groups to comparing animals to one another. We learned all about farms, the jobs that different farm animals have, and we got to touch lots of baby animals on our field trip. It was a lovely experience, and the kids had an awesome time!
We continued to practice subtracting, writing equations, graphing, and making equal groups (early division concepts). Sra. Moore came to teach a lesson about inclusion, and Srta. Moreno taught an adorable art lesson about city scapes. We started reading with fourth grade buddies, which was both fun and challenging for everyone!
We also took on a big challenge during Makerspace time - building a bird nest! The kids could work alone or in pairs, and they had to gather materials and build a nest outside. They were shocked at how difficult it was to keep the nest together, and are now impressed with birds' nest-building skills. =]

Empty (Family Size) Cereal Boxes Needed!
We are collecting empty, FAMILY SIZE, cereal boxes for the upcoming Cartonera Project.
Please send the flattened boxes with your child to school if you have them!
What is a cartonera? Translated quite literally, a cartonera is a cardboard book. Cartoneras got their start in Argentina in 2003 as a way of making reading and writing accessible to all. Click HERE for more information about the Cartonera Project.
If your child loves art and would like to showcase one of their original pieces, this is a great opportunity! The art work must be original and must be 2D (flat). We cannot hang canvases, but you could take a photo if your child has created art on canvas an submit that. The artwork should be 12x18 inches or smaller, and their work needs to be turned in between April 28 - May 3. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Here is the snack calendar for May & June. Thank you for helping the kids to eat healthily and to try new fruits and vegetables!
