We were Sra. Vandewalker's first class in the library on Thursday morning and we enjoyed listening to her read the story "The King of Kindergarten" by Derrick Barnes as well as being able to check out books.
In our class we spent a lot of time taking part in community building activities such as the game "Yo tambien" where students were able to find similarities between them and their classmates. As well as being able to share toys, new shoes, pictures, drawings, and stories with everyone in the class during our time of "Yo tengo" (Show and Tell).
For language arts we continued to review the letters and their sounds. This week students were introduced to the letter Ch by working on writing words in a fun book all about items beginning with Ch. In math we focused on counting to 20, identifying teen numbers, and adding to 10 through games, coloring activities, and the use of different manipulatives. Students also enjoyed taking part in activities such as getting creative with clay and using push pins to poke out snowflake images. We were able to get a lot of movement in as well by playing outside in the snow, dancing in class, and going to the gym with Sr. Watkins.
I hope you heard a lot of positive stories coming back home from your child and that they are looking forward to spending more time in school :)
