We painted and created self-portraits. We practiced the alphabet every day, playing letter games and writing the letters. In math, we learned a new counting game, compared numbers, and made a graph about eye colors. We learned the words igual (same) and diferente (different). On our weekly walk we found a lot of pine cones and colored leaves. We also found a dragonfly in our classroom! The teachers acted out the story of La mariquita malhumorada (The Grouchy Ladybug).
After 4 weeks of school, the students are settling in to the classroom routine. They are understanding and following instructions much better, and their Spanish vocabularies are beginning to grow! It's very exciting and rewarding to hear children incorporating their new Spanish into their daily conversation. This week one of the girls decided that she would start saying thank you (gracias) and you're welcome (de nada) in Spanish -- it was great to hear, and she was very proud of herself. I've included some more photos of our children in action in the classroom. (My apologies for the blurry photos. I'd blame it on your kids always moving, but I think I need to get a better camera!)
