Your child may have come home talking about Srta. Starr this week or last. Olivia Starr is a student teacher from the University of MN, and is working in our classroom for just three weeks this spring. Her last day will be this Friday.
You may have also heard that Srta. LaBrasca was at school. Her visit created quite a stir in the classroom last Tuesday! She is currently filling in for a first grade teacher. It's been fun to have her back at PSI.
Pat Hartman, one of the high school science teachers came to our class twice last week to talk about what a scientist does, to differentiate between man-made and natural objects, and to talk about animals' and plants' needs.
We also had our last art class with Sra. Humphrey for the year. The kids finished their James Rizzi-inspired art, and the results are adorable! In writing, each child had to come up with a set of clues to describe a secret animal. They had a blast sharing their clues with their classmates, and I hope they shared them with you at home.
We spent Friday afternoon outside playing some "old school" games. The kids could choose between a bean bag toss game, hopscotch, or jumping rope. I was impressed by their determination to successfully jump rope, and many of them are quite good at it! They were very excited to be outside playing some new (old) games.
Mr. Hartman will be back for three more science classes, and the kids will be cooperatively designing and creating a miniature farm. The students will meet with Sra. Moore, our counselor, for a lesson on friendship. We will work with coins in math class, and will do another animal art project. The teachers have a fun surprise planned for Thursday afternoon!
