In math, we began subtraction and also continued to count and name teen numbers. We played a game with hidden pennies to help us practice number pairs. The number pairs of 6 are 3 and 3, 4 and 2, 5 and 1, etc. We've been drawing and coloring a lot of patterns, too.
We enjoyed Froggy Gets Dressed and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. We acted out the Froggy story and then made mini-books that include the sequence. We also put pictures in order using an ipad app. We drew and wrote about the pigeon (la Paloma).
In our Makerspace activity, we attempted to recreate a very challenging 6-block structure. We painted with forks, traced, cut, and glued to make a red cardinal perched on a background of birch trees. The students had to be patient while learning to "cut" snowflakes in a rewarding project in the computer lab.
During the winter party we had a blast exploring Oobleck, an unpredictable substance made of two parts cornstarch to one part water. I loved the curiosity and sense of wonder that filled the room during this part of the party! We wrapped up the party and the week with the interactive story Max Found Two Sticks by Brian Pinkney. Earlier this month, we created an art project based on Brian Pinkney's illustrations.

On Wednesday, a volunteer stopped by to explain this school-wide event to the class. Students of all ages are encouraged to create or build something, share an experiment, or tell others about a passion of theirs. Examples of past projects include: lego creations, plant experiments, homemade soaps, car ramps, mazes, taste tests, float/sink projects. The sky's the limit!
