(The math site was made possible by a grant from the SLP Schools Foundation.)
I spent a fair amount of time assessing the students, and I look forward to sharing information with you about their progress. We continue to work with the letter names and sounds, focusing on Aa-Ee-Ii-Oo-Uu and Mm-Pp-Ll-Tt. We will practice those specific sounds for the next two weeks, with the goal that students recognize those letters when they hear the sounds or see them written.
Last week I mentioned the daily independent reading that we have started doing. Daily 5 Reading is a structure that was developed by sisters Gail Boushey and Joan Moser. I have used it for several years to teach reading. The first step is called Read to Self. Right now, we are focusing on increasing our stamina to read independently during Read to Self. Within the next few months, other reading and writing choices will be introduced. While the students are completing their literacy tasks, Srta. Valencia and I will be meeting with small groups or individual students to do literacy activities.
Next week:
The AM class party will be from 9:45-10:45.
The PM class party will be from 1:30-2:30.
Volunteers are welcome!

Students may wear their costumes to school. Just a reminder that costumes should not be violent or frightening. It is important that students are able to see clearly if wearing a mask.
