In math, our focus last week was 2D and 3D shapes. The kids learned how to draw shapes, how to make them with clay, to find shapes in the natural world, to use geoboards to make shapes, and much more. Other math topics of late include addition, subtraction, and identifying the number that is one more or one less than a given number.
Sra. Schilz, one of the high school science teachers came to our class last week to talk about what a scientist does, to differentiate between man-made and natural objects, and to talk about animals' and plants' needs. Those lessons were the basis used to plan, design, and then to build a miniature farm. The kids worked with their peers at their tables to design a farm that meets both animals' and plants' needs. They worked well together, and now they are anxiously waiting for their seeds to grow.
