As we finished our third full week of school, the kids have started to settle in to our routines and to the way school works. We continue to work on walking quietly in the halls and using Whole Body Listening. We also spend time each day talking about the importance of listening to the speaker, whether that be the teacher or a classmate. We are continue to work on these rules and routines in order for the rest of the year to run smoothly. Students are starting to sprinkle Spanish words into their conversations. Hopefully you are starting to see a little bit of that at home!
This week, we practiced counting and recognizing numbers 1-10, counting to 20, we practiced making groups and graphs, and we distinguished between things that are different or the same. We focused on the vowels, differentiating between uppercase and lowercase letters, putting the letters of the alphabet in order, writing the ABC's, and Tucker signing.
In art, we drew, painted, cut, and glued to create bright and colorful self portraits to hang in our classroom. During our visit to the Makerspace workshop, we created towers and structures with blocks and sticks. The toughest challenge was creating a structure with ony one block as the base. We ended the week with talleres and a funny story with Sra. Lindsey's class.
This week's favorite book vote was close. The winner was "Donde viven los monstruos" ("Where the Wild Things Are") by Maurice Sendak. As we tallied the votes, the kids shared reasons for why they like the books. We started using the phrase "Me gusta ____." ("I like _____.").
