While I'm not a big fan of pets, I have to admit that the bunnies are awfully cute, and that I am glad the mother duck returned to our yard to build her nest for a second time--it was a neat experience last year.
I know that many of you have pets, and I know that your children would love to tell the class about them. Unfortunately, bringing those pets to school is not an option. Instead, I'd like you to send me a photo (electronic or printed) of your pet(s), with or without your child in the photo. If you don't have a pet, send me a photo of one of your child's favorite animals. If sending me a photo won't work for you, that's fine, too. I'll help your child get a photo at school.
We'll be putting together a project with the animal photos this week, so please send it as soon as you can. Thanks!

According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (and many others), "Playing in nature promotes the health, cognitive development, and well-being of children; forms the foundation for responsible environmental behavior and conservation values; encourages the development of social skills, physical ability, creativity, and coordination; and reduces stress and enhances emotional health."
After every field trip to Westwood Nature Center, I vow again to have my own children spend more time in nature. It was good timing then, that I got this information about MN Arbor Month. The DNR's website has information and ideas about getting your kids out to enjoy and learn from the great outdoors. Check out their website for an upcoming St. Louis Park event!
