As is expected after reading your child's first report card, you may have some questions. The district uses a four-letter scale to share information with you about your child's progress.
E - Your child's work is above and beyond what we expect at the end of kindergarten.
S - Your child's work is what we expect at the end of kindergarten, i.e. at grade level.
P - Your child is progressing toward what we expect at the end of kindergarten.
N - Your child is not progressing at the rate he/she needs to be to meet the end-of- kindergarten goals.
Because it is January, and there is still much to be learned in kindergarten, many students have a report card filled with P's -- they are progressing toward the end-of-year goals. If your child has N's on their report card, those are areas of concern, especially in writing the ABC's, identifying letters and sounds, or math. Your child will be receiving extra help from me with letter/sound recognition and numbers 1-20. Extra practice at home, in Spanish or English, is helpful. That being said, if your child received an N in reads grade-level sight words, do not panic! We have only just begun to work on that skill.
