Kindergarteners go outside every day for recess, so please send appropriate clothing with your child. Below are a few tips to help our transitions to and from recess go smoothly:
- Label your child's clothing!
- Help your child to practice getting him/herself dressed in their winter clothing.
- Help your child to practice zipping their coat.
- Help your child to practice tying their shoes and closing their boots, if necessary.
In other news this week, we read two stories that helped us to think of the verbs that we already know in Spanish. I was impressed with the list: leer, colorear, pintar, comer, correr, caminar, escribir, dibujar, pensar, escuchar, jugar, limpiar, contar, bailar, and a few others. Several students are beginning to form phrases in Spanish--I love to hear that! We started to look more closely at teen numbers. This involves not only learning the names of the numbers, but also realizing that teen numbers are made up of ten and a specific number more. We did some simple addition problems as well.
Because the both the students' phonemic awareness and vocabulary acquisition are improving quickly, we will now be introducing two letters most weeks. This week's letters were Ll and Bb. New vocabulary includes:
Ll leer (to read) el libro (book) letras (letters) el león (lion)
limón (lemon) lima (lime) el lobo (wolf) la luna (moon)
Bb el bebé (baby) el brazo (arm) las botas (boots) el búho (owl)
la boca (mouth) la bandera (flag) blanco (white)
New math games
Here is a link to the mountain game board, but you could easily draw your own.
The object of the mountain game is to be the first to climb your mountain, in number order, and then descend the other side. Player 1 rolls the dice and hopes for a 1, which will allow him to cross the number 1 off his mountain. He must “ascend” in numerical order, so cannot cross off the 2 until he has crossed off the 1. If he rolls a 1 and a 2, however, he can cross both numbers off in one turn. Play continues until someone has made it all the way up their mountain and down the other side in the correct order.
