Last week we finished up our math book by asking each other questions to make a graph, by drawing some more patterns, and counting teen numbers. Yes, you can keep the math book at home. We'll be starting a new one this week. After doing a guided drawing lesson, the kids chose to make an art project of either Pato or una vaca (Duck or a cow), two characters from Doreen Cronin's funny books. The letter/sound of the week was "ch". New vocabulary:
el chocolate - chocolate el chicle - chewing gum
el chivo - goat chico y chica - boy and girl
la chaqueta - jacket chocolate caliente - hot chocolate
chistoso/a - funny chiquito/a - tiny
On Friday, we acted out the story "El chivo en la huerta", a funny story about a goat that insists on eating some delicious peppers (chiles). We also watched "Los 3 chivos" (The 3 Billy Goats).
In the computer lab, we wrote syllables, and will continue to practice this skill as we work toward writing more words. Creating tin foil boats that would float was the Makerspace challenge. After the boats floated, students added pennies to test how much weight their boats could hold. It was fun to watch them thinking and rethinking their designs as they tested out their boats in the water.
- We will not be exchanging Valentine cards on Valentine's Day.
- A reminder that some of you will have your child's first semester conference on Friday - See you then!
- The Amity interns have switched grade levels. Srta. Beatriz Moreno now works in our classroom.
- We will be starting our Paper & Wood unit this week. To make this a success, we will need many different types of paper and cardboard. If you have any types of paper (stationary, newsprint, wrapping, tissue, etc.) that you no longer need, we can use it! Please send it in this week. Thanks!
