We continue to practice the vowel sounds and words that begin with a, e, i, o, u. Counting and recognizing the numbers 1-10 are a focus each day, as are naming the colors. We have done a variety of activities to practice all of this content.
It was a week of firsts in our classroom. On Monday, we visited the Makerspace! Check out the photos below to see the lego bridge builders in action. On Friday morning, we walked to the St. Louis Park library for our first field trip. That afternoon, we did our first of many guided drawings of the year. Your talented drawers made some impressive drawings of David, from the funny book series by David Shannon. We ended the week by singing and dancing with all of the other PSI students at the first whole-school assembly of the year.
We had a number of teachers visit our classroom this week. Sra. Scheid, the literacy coach, talked about being a good reader on Monday. She explained to the class how they can already read books, even if they don't know how to read the words; they can read the pictures! The kids were motivated to be readers during individual reading time.
Sra. Scheid also talked about growth mindset - not using the phrase "I can't", but rather saying "I can't do that yet, but I will be able to." This is something that we will work on all year long.
Sra. Moore visited and talked about the zones of regulation and being present (mindful). She also shared some breathing techniques and tools that students can use to help calm themselves when necessary.
