The first full week of kindergarten is always challenging -- was your child tired? I was!
It was exciting to hear the kids start to use some of the Spanish words they have learned, especially "sí por favor" and "gracias" (please and thank you). This week we focused on learning the vowels and some words that begin with a,e,i,o,u. In math, we continued to practice counting, forming, and learning the numbers from 1-10, using a variety of manipulatives. We also played many new games and learned a few new songs!
The kids were busy with a variety of other activities including: painting, working with clay, having a social lesson on good listening skills with Sra. Moore, and putting on a play of Los Tres Cerditos (The Three Little Pigs)! This week we also checked out books from the library for the first time. We ended the week with Talleres and story time with Sra. Lindsey's class. The kids could choose from building a tall block tower, art, or drawing with chalk.
Here are some fun photos of Los Tres Cerditos:
We met Sra. VanDeWalker, our library/media specialist, when we went to the library on Tuesday. The kids each checked out two books this week, but they will bring home two books in Spanish and one book in English for the rest of the year. Please make sure that all of their books make it back into the backpack on Tuesday mornings so that they can check out new books each week.

Sra. Foreman, our Spanish reading teacher, is taking our class to the St. Louis Park Public Library on Friday, September 21!
We want to foster a love of reading, and are excited to make a special walking trip to celebrate that. Thank you to all of you that returned the field trip permission slip. Please return it if you haven't yet done so.
