Other language arts activities this week included putting the alphabet in order, matching upper and lower case letters, identifying initial sounds, and counting syllables in words. The kids learned to draw patos (ducks), pinguinos (penguins), and pájaros (birds). On Friday morning, we made pan (bread)! The kids were excited to mix, knead, and eat the bread. I had intended to take more photos, but my hands were a bit messy throughout the process!
It was difficult to choose this week's favorite book. Each book had a connection to the letter Pp, and the vote was close. The winner was a book called El pececito juega a las escondidas (The Little Fish Plays Hide and Seek). It is about two fish that play hide and seek in a world that appears to be much bigger than their tiny fish bowl. One of the fish even dances with the cat during the game!
More new vocabulary:
papel - paper princesa - princess príncipe - prince
por favor - please papá - dad pelo - hair
pantalones - pants pez - fish pescar - to fish
pies - feet palo - a stick palomitas - popcorn
pequeño - small problema - problem pelota - a ball
We also practiced writing the numbers 4 and 5, made a graph, counted to 20, and compared numbers in math activities. During our visit to the Makerspace, we explored several toys that encourage building and creating.
We started working with learning centers this week. Centers are individual activities that allow for students to practice math and language arts topics and fine motor and visual arts skills. Students are assigned to one centers area each day, and rotate through all 6 centers every six days. The kids really enjoyed their first week of centers.
Please send your child with appropriate clothing if it is cold.
And PLEASE label your child's clothing!
