We spent some time reviewing rules and routines, and everyone got back in the swing of things quite quickly! We are doing a quick review of the 14 letters we've learned (A, E, I, O, U, M, L, T, S, R, P, D, F, N). We will focus on one consonant each day, stressing syllables and words that begin with the letters. As part of this review, the children have been writing in their journals. Starting January 28, we will continue with the Letter of the Week routine.
We took a closer look at the numbers between 10 and 20 this week, and will continue to do so. Before you know it, your children will be counting to 100 in Spanish!
Nurses from Minute Clinic visited PSI this week to instruct students in effective hand washing techniques. The best way to prevent the spread of germs is to wash hands. In an effort to control the spread of colds/flu in our classroom, I will be washing down surfaces after each class leaves for the day.
I will be conducting several reading assessments with the children this week: letter identification, letter writing, syllables, and sight words. Next week, I will do math assessments: identifying and writing numbers and patterns. You will get the results of these assessments in your child's report card, which will be sent home the week of January 28.
For the next two weeks, Rachel Novotny, an education student from UW La Crosse, will be spending time with the afternoon class to learn about immersion education.
Srta. Mlsna is spending the month of January working in a school in Ecuador! She will be back to help out in the classroom in February.
