This week's math topics included more addition, two new games, writing equations, and drawing cylinders.
During writing time, we have been focusing on segmenting words - hearing each sound, and writing everything that they hear. We also have been continuing to work on handwriting, on writing in the lines, and we have started to write short sentences more frequently. We read a great book, No es una caja (It's Not a Box), which is about all of the things a box can be if you use your imagination. The kids came up with some original ideas for boxes and they shared their ideas in a class book.
They got to bring some of the ideas to life when we used paper, cardboard, and wood to create sculptures. Items ranged from cars to hamster and bird houses to a vase of flowers. Our room was filled with a great energy as we all worked together to plan, cut, glue, paint, and create these items on Friday morning. Watch for photos next week!
Send your child's March Mathness sheet to school by Thursday. It is the pink sheet with 9 boxes full of fun math activities to try at home. Please initial each activity your child completes.
