The first half of the year is off to a great start! We have been busy in reading class working to learn the Spanish letter names and sounds. Now, we are on to the next big step, blending sounds to read syllables, words, and sentences. It is really very exciting to see the magic of reading begin to spark! The most important thing for these little readers is for them to develop a love of reading and good reading habits. You can promote this at home by setting aside time to read every day and modeling reading yourself.
On another note, you may have heard that I am expecting a baby this month. Señora Woods will be here in my place for the rest of the year. She will be in contact when she transitions into my place. I’m happy to answer any questions you have before then. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you and happy reading!

We finished up our math book by asking each other questions to make a graph, by drawing some more patterns, and counting teen numbers. Yes, you can keep the math book at home. We'll be starting a new one next week. Check out the photos of the kids playing a fun new addition game called "Chocar."
We had two letters/sounds this week; the "h" and the "ch". We sang a new song called "1-2-3 Chocolate." Some new vocabulary:
el helado - ice cream la hoja - the leaf
el helicóptero - the helicopter hola - "hi"
el chocolate - chocolate el chicle - chewing gum
el chivo - goat chico y chica - boy and girl
la chaqueta - jacket chocolate caliente - hot chocolate
chistoso/a - funny chiquito/a - tiny
One of the talleres activities was to act out the story "El chivo en la huerta", a funny story about a goat that insists on eating some delicious peppers (chiles). Other talleres activities were watercolor painting and free play. The Makerspace challenge was to create the longest paper chain possible using just one sheet of paper, scissors, and a glue stick. The kids also folded and twirled paper to create bright and colorful 3D art projects. It was a busy week!

I have attached a copy of the sight words below. You can also practice them online by going to the kindergarten websites, clicking on the "El alfabéto" page. Use the "ABC's y letras" dropdown menu to click on "Sílabas y palabras" or "Palabras" for more practice. Happy reading!
